Beginning Part 2: What am I actually doing?

By the time this post goes live I’ll be wheels down in Japan. Landing in Osaka, one of the great food cities of Japan, I’ll be meeting up with some local brewers before flitting across to Kyoto. Kyoto was the capital of Japan for hundreds of years and now known as place to indulge in Japanese culture. From Osaka and Kyoto I’ll head to my first beer festival of the trip-Snow Monkey Beer Live being hosted by Shiga Kogen Brewing

I'll be travelling with my Aeropress and grinder and buying locally roasted beans as I go.

Now let me me just clear this up, I am not just going travelling to drink beer… I also love coffee, wine, whiskey, gin and in the next few weeks I am going to try to learn about sake; its history, how its made, how it is drank and so on. I will let you know if I love sake too.

Let me further clear this up, I am not just going to on a 3 month binge (Mum, I swear!) I want to meet the people who make these drinks, I want to meet the people who sell them and the people who enjoy them and I want to find out why what they do is important to them. I want to learn and see first hand just how they enjoy their local beer (and other drinks.) This is the way that I will explore each destination on my 3 month trip and write about as many the insights as I can.

But can I also make it very clear that I am also going to be eating so much ramen, soba, udon, izakaya, yakkitori and teppanyaki. And that is just in the first 2 weeks.
